What are GLP-1 drugs: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications were originally developed to help manage diabetes, butthey’ve also proven to be highly effective tools for weight loss. Studies show that medicationssuch as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can help individuals lose approximately 15–25% of theirbody weight.

How Semaglutide and Tirzepatide support weight loss

  1. Tirzepatide offers an additional benefitIn addition to activating GLP-1 receptors, Tirzepatide also targets GIP receptors, whichcan further enhance appetite control, metabolic function, and overall weight lossoutcomes.
  2. They help you feel full sooner—and stay full longer
These medications slow gastric emptying, meaning food moves more slowly through the stomach. This helps reduce portion sizes naturally and prolongs feelings of fullness after meals.
  3. They reduce hunger at the brain level
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide activate GLP-1 receptors in the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates appetite. This signaling reduces hunger and increases satiety, making it easier to eat less without feeling deprived.
  4. They improve metabolic function
Both medications help regulate blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and stimulate fat cell oxidation—supporting more efficient and sustainable weight loss.
  5. They help reset the body’s weight “set point”
Everyone has a natural weight set point, largely influenced by genetics. When weight is lost, the body often responds by increasing hunger and slowing metabolism, which can lead to regain. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide help turn off this response, allowing hunger to remain suppressed after weight loss and making it easier to maintain results.
